At Gorsefield, we are committed to creating a culture of belonging where every child, family and member of staff feels valued, respected and empowered to thrive. We believe that diversity enriches our school community.
As a proud member of the Greater Manchester Race Equality Panel, we work collaboratively with school leaders across the region to advance race equality, challenge discrimination and promote equity within education. The Panel brings together professional expertise, research and lived experiences to support schools in developing inclusive practices that enable all children to achieve and succeed.
Our involvement with the Panel supports us to:
- Develop a deeper understanding of what race equality looks like in practice.
- Reflect critically on our policies, curriculum and culture to ensure they are inclusive and equitable.
- Evaluate our practice against recognised race equality competencies.
- Learn from and contribute to effective practice across Greater Manchester.
- Strengthen opportunities, outcomes and experiences for all pupils.

Through the social strand of our curriculum, children are encouraged to celebrate individual difference, value diverse perspectives and develop a deep understanding of identity, belonging and respect. This commitment extends beyond the classroom and is reflected in our policies, practices and the lived experiences of our school community.
Proud Signatories of the Halo Code
Gorsefield is proud to be a Halo Code School. The Halo Code is a pledge to recognise and celebrate natural hair and protective hairstyles associated with Black heritage and other racial, ethnic and cultural identities. By adopting the Halo Code, we are actively challenging discrimination and ensuring that no child or adult is treated differently because of their hair.
Our commitment to the Halo Code reflects our wider belief that every individual should feel a strong sense of belonging and be able to express their identity with confidence and pride. We celebrate the uniqueness of every member of our community and are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels respected, represented and empowered to be their authentic self.
Through education, reflection and purposeful action, we strive to prepare children to become compassionate, respectful citizens who contribute positively to modern Britain and the wider world.
