Our Governors
Gorsefield’s Local Advisory Board (LAB) work as a team. The board is responsible for ensuring the school provides good quality education for all pupils.
The LAB meet every half term. Each Advisor also has responsibility for conducting regular monitoring visits to the school, which focus on specific areas of the School Development Plan.
The Local Advisors contribute to the work of the board in ensuring high standards of achievement for all children and young people in the school by:
- Setting the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- To determine the aims and overall conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement.
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
- Ensure policies are set and adhered to.
- Monitor Health and Safety and management of the premises.
The Principal of the school, Ruth Onyekaba, is responsible for day-to-day leadership and operational running of the school. The role of the Local Advisory Board is to provide strategic management, and to act as a ‘critical friend’, supporting the work of the Principal and other staff.
Schools generally have a delegated budget to cover salaries, running costs, maintenance, and equipment; the Advisory Board is support in the management of this budget. They can contribute to the decisions on how many and what types of staff to employ, which equipment to upgrade or replace and what the priorities are for implementing new strategies and initiatives.
Advisors are involved in the recruitment of staff, with the Principal, CEO e.g.: appointing the head teacher.
Advisors also have a role in monitoring the school’s progress, and support in setting annual targets for the school’s performance and for the Principal and ensuring that the Principal sets targets for other staff.
